Busy Beavers Video

Monday, August 26th, 2013

We have three beaver lodges at Earth Sanctuary.  There is a weir and culvert between the Middle and West Ponds.  When the beavers hear running water, they immediately build a dam to stop the water.  In this video, you can see Chuck Pettis using a pitchfork to unclog the dam.  At night the beavers come back and fill it in again.  And on it goes!

Great Blue Heron Catches Large Catfish

Saturday, April 13th, 2013
Craig Johnson came to Earth Sanctuary sat on the bench by the labyrinth for a while watching the heron preen near the middle of the pond. The heron flew to the area near the Native American prayer stone (just off the cattails). He went to that location, keeping a distance and noticed the heron’s body undulating, so I knew the bird was going to strike. I leaned against a tree, hand holding my pocket video camera and shot the clip. It was about 4:00 PM.
