The Earth Sanctuary Cottonwood Stone Circle

Tuesday, October 4th, 2005

The Cottonwood Stone Circle is located in the center of the Earth Sanctuary property. Built in the Fall of 2002, the Cottonwood Stone Circle consists of 12 flame-finished cut columns of Columbia River basalt, up to 11 feet in height, set in a Type B flattened stone circle geometry (ref: A. Thom) with a circumference of 120 feet. Two outlier stones delineate North-South. The Cottonwood Stone Circle is surrounded by a ring of Black Cottonwood trees that it is hoped will attract a Great Blue Heron rookery in 20 years.
