Earth Sanctuary Restoration Work Parties!

Time/Date: April 1, 2 and 15 from 10am-4pm

Come join the new 2005-2006 University of Washington Restoration Ecology Network as we embark upon the physical journey to environmental nirvana! This year’s project is an innovative design solution to a unique landscape at the Earth Sanctuary. We will be removing invasive plant species and subsequently installing native plants and trees along with various materials necessary to support the restoration project. This is an excellent experience to build your restoration knowledge and support our unique Northwest ecosystem. This is a party! Bring gloves and lets have some fun!

Directions:
From Seattle, take I-5 north. Take Exit 189 from I-5 to the west and follow the signs to the Whidbey Island/Mukilteo ferry terminal. Get into the ferry line where the signs tell you to do so or whenever you see the “end of the line” of cars. Ferries leave every half hour and the ride lasts about 20 minutes. Once on Whidbey Island, drive north on the main highway, Route 525, for approx. 7 miles. Turn right onto Newman Road and drive for about 0.8 mile until you see the Earth Sanctuary sign on the right side of the road. (Note: along the way, you will pass by the Fen and see people and pink flags - that’s where we’ll be working!) For parking, go to the Earth Sanctuary sign (mail box 2059) and turn right into this driveway. Go about 50 feet and go right when you reach the Y in the road. The parking lot is about 100 feet from the Y. Park here.
